Located 14 miles north of Boston, Nahant is a town of rocky coasts in the southern part of Essex County. Like many other coastal communities, Nahant once was a maritime community with many fishermen. Soon it became a resort area with visitors staying in boarding houses, private homes and eventually hotels. By the mid 1800’s Nahant was quickly becoming a summer destination for Boston’s wealthier inhabitants.
It wasn’t until around 1900 that the trend for building resorts and hotels had made more of a glidepath towards residences. Developers and construction firms began building hundreds of summer homes for visitors over the period of a few decades. Today, Nahant is still a residential community where you will find a mix of both summer and year-round residents.
